Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane. It has a very small molecular structure which means that it can easily penetrate the skin. It is not absorbed by the body and has no systemic side effects.
How does it work?
The Stratum Corneum (skin surface), is made up of dead skin cells bonded with a glue-like substance. These cells are constantly being shed and replaced with newer cells. This process slows down with age, meaning cells adhere to the surface longer, drying out and hardening.
Glycolic acid loosens the glue-like substance lifting dead cells from the skin surface and releasing congestion in the follicles.
